PLAYER ONE
Commissioned by QUAD Gallery Derby as part of their Season of Play.
Player One is a projection-mapped sculpture that tells the story of someone who got a bit too into gaming during lockdown — and then, somehow got sucked into the game. Like Crystal Maze meets Videodrome.
Over the course of seven virtual days, the sculpture recounts a journey through various digital worlds: space, medieval castles, and a zombie-infested shopping centre (which honestly wasn’t that different from Asda in 2020). Each story blurs reality and fantasy until you’re not sure who’s escaping whom.
The character speaks in fragments — part confession, part loading screen — projected onto their own form as they flicker between dimensions. It’s part theatre, part hallucination, part public service announcement about what happens when you stay logged in too long.
Created with projection mapping, storytelling, and a stubborn faith in play as a survival mechanism,
